THE MIZU GAMI PATCH The Mizu Gami emblem is the symbol for Isshin ryu karate. Students wear this patch on the left breast of their gi top. Every item in the picture represents something in the history or philosophy of Isshinryu karatedo. For more information, see the Mizu Gami page. |

THE HACHIMAN PATCH This patch is the symbol for all Okinawan karate styles, including, of course, Isshinryu. This swirled hachiman symbol is said to represent an eight-sided figure, and to honor the "three kingdoms" of Okinawa. Hachiman was also the Japanese god of war and martial prowess. Black belts are allowed to wear the hachiman patch on their gi, if they would like. Kyu level are not permitted to wear this. |

THE DEMO TEAM PATCH This patch is earned when one of Sensei Cecil's karate students participates in three tournaments, demonstrations, seminars, or other karate-related activities outside of normal class time. Generally, this activity involves performing karate in public in some fashion to promote the art form. Students of any rank may earn this patch. It is then worn on the left shoulder of the gi. |
